They maintain that baby rabbit appearance and size into adulthood and only grow up to be 1lb full grown. The difference between a true dwarf and a false dwarf is a true dwarf is very tiny in size, round in body shape, with tiny ears, and a round face. With Netherland Dwarfs, a rabbit kit born with dwarfism we call a true dwarf and a rabbit born without dwarfism we call a false dwarf. In animal species exhibiting the dwarfism gene, not all of the babies always inherit that gene. If you are interested in adopting an adult rabbit shoot us an email! We retire our does at 4 years old and sometimes have spayed or neutered adult rabbits available for adoption as single rabbits or in pairs for very reasonable prices. Netherland Dwarfs often become much more relaxed cuddle buddies when they are more mature (around 8-9 months old) so be patient with them. If you are adopting a young baby rabbit from us please remember that they are much like human children (and puppies and kittens) and will go through that youth phase where they are full of energy, don't want to stay still in one place, and would rather run around and play, explore, and fulfill their curiosities.

They are much more active than the other breeds of rabbits and do require more exercise to stretch their legs (2+ hours a day of free running playtime.) We highly recommend litter box training and allowing free range of the home for exercise as well as indoor bunny condos for housing.īecause they live up to the same age range as cats and dogs please consider the investment of time you are going to undertake when adopting a Netherland Dwarf. They make excellent house pets as they are easy to litter train and can live up to 10+ years when spayed/neutered, cared for optimally, and given the proper diet and exercise. Netherland Dwarfs are a lot of fun with so much personality and playfulness. Our goal is to continue to strive for nurturing this breed as we raise them so that they will inherit a predisposition to become great pets. Since we raise our rabbits with the utmost care and handling and thoughtfulness we have been successful in raising Netherland Dwarfs with a much calmer and comfortable demeanor towards their human friends. They have developed a reputation for being nervous and aggressive and not suited for children. The Netherland Dwarf, although small and adorable, is known to be the most timid breed of bunny due to their wild heritage (a cross between the Polish rabbit and wild rabbits.)

We breed for small ears and baby-like features with round faces.Ĭurrently we produce rabbits with coat colors of fawn, chestnut vm, black vm, and blue eyed white.Īlthough we do produce these colors, we do not always have them available and certain colors are much rarer and less likely to be born than others.

We at Rosewood Rabbit Farm pride ourselves in raising gentle and loving companion Netherland Dwarf rabbits.
